Holmes 51, McEachern 59 - A pregame technical foul put top ranked Holmes' Ricardo Johnson on the line where the Bulldogs took a 2-0 to begin the game. The Bulldogs used that momentum to speed out to a 7-2 lead in the first two minutes of play. Holmes maintain a six point lead throughout the quarter taking a 19-13 lead at the quarter break. Deleon Gist's goal with 2:17 remaining in the first half brought McEachern within 24-26. Trae Golden brought the Indians within one at 26-27 and slammed home a dunk to bring it to 28-29 at the half. The teams found themselves all tied up on four different occasions in the third quarter. Elijah Pittman scored the last seven points of the quarter for Holmes as the Bulldogs and Indians remained tied at 42-42 entering the fourth quarter. Marquis Roberts scored one minute into the final quarter to give McEachern their first lead since 32-31. Golden connected on a pair of free throws with 4:59 to give McEachern their largest lead of the game at four points and connected on a layup with 3:20 remaining to push the lead to six. With two minutes to go in the game the Indians had taken a 51-44 lead before Elijah Pittman converted a steal into a dunk cutting the lead back to five. Ricardo Johnson connected on a three-pointer with 1:06 remaining to pull Holmes back within three points. Trae Golden connected on four of six free throws in the last 1:30 to seal the McEachern 59-51 victory over Kentucky's top ranked team. Golden finished with 23 points and Roberts added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Indians. Elijah Pittman finished with 18 points for Holmes. McEachern's Trae Golden was named the Gatorade/Five-Star Basketball Star of the Game.

Fairdale 66, Knott Co. Central 67 - The Fairdale duo of Quintrel Morris and Josh Stroud helped the host Bulldogs jump out to a quick 7-2 lead in their King of the Bluegrass opener. The Patriots grabbed three straight offensive rebounds before sinking a basket to tie the game at 10-10. A bucket by Morris at the buzzer gave Fairdale a 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The teams exchanged the lead five times in the first three minutes of the second quarter before Zack Davis gave Knott County Central a 20-17 lead. Anthoney Claypool's three pointer with 3:08 remaining in the half tied the score for the sixth time. Fairdale took a 28-27 lead into the locker room at the half. Fairdale opened the second half on a 7-0 run before the Patriots scored their first basket of the half. Knott County Central pulled within four points before Claypool connected on his fourth three-pointer of the night to extend the Bulldogs lead to 40-33. Tate Cox and Zack Davis scored back-to-back goals for the Patriots to bring the score to 48-47 with six minutes remaining in the game. A Nason Roberts field goal with just over 3:00 remaining in the game brought the Patriots within two points and Davis put Knott Co. Central ahead with a three-pointer on their next possession. Claypool gave the Bulldogs the lead again with 1:50 remaining in the game on a three-pointer. Braxton Ratliff connected on two free throws for Knott Co. Central to push their lead to 65-62 with one minute remaining in the game. Stuart Stamper missed two straight free throws in the final thirty seconds to give the Bulldogs a shot. Freshman Boo Crabtree scored his second straight basket to give Fairdale a 66-65 lead. Zack Davis put the Patriots back in the lead with 5.9 seconds remaining following a missed free throw by Crabtree. A last second three-point attempt by Claypool just missed to give the Patriots the 67-66 win. Claypool led all scoreres with 22 points including six three-point field goals. Morris added 18 points and 17 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Zack Davis had 18 points including the game winner and Tate Cox added 16. Knott County Central's Zack Davis was named the Gatorade/Five-Star Basketball Star of the Game.

Clark County 74, Lee 56 - Clark County opened the game on a 10-0 run holding Huntsville, Alabama's Lee High School scoreless for the opening five minutes of play. Lee would not go away forcing back-to-back Clark County turnovers in the closing minute of the first quarter to cut the Cardinals' lead to 16-7 at the quarter break. The Generals continued to fight back pulling within five points mid way through the second quarter. An old fashion three-point play by Lee's Lebron King pulled his squad within nine points following a 7-0 run by Clark County. The Generals pulled within 33-37 four minutes into the third quarter but couldn't get any closer to the hot shooting Cardinals until the closing 1:30 of the quarter. Three straight Clark County turnovers gave the Generals momentum as they cut the lead to one point. A missed dunk by Lee's Josh Langford and a goal tending call on the other end of the court allowed Clark County to extend their lead back to 13 points. The Cardinals continued to roll extending their lead to as many as 20 points on multiple occasions in the last four minutes of the game. Josh Langford and Lebron King led Lee with 13 points apiece. Vinny Zollo scored 21 points and grabbed 20 rebounds and Robbie Stenzel added 21 for the Cardinals. Clark County's Vinny Zollo was named the Gatorade/Five-Star Basketball Star of the Game.

Ballard 63, Memphis Central 67 - Memphis Central opened the second day of action with the first basket in route to an early 8-4 lead. A technical foul on the Bruin bench and two straight missed field goals allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to ten points in less than a minute. A pair of Ian Chiles three-pointers got Ballard as close as 7 points before Central closed out the quarter on a 3-0 run to maintain a ten point lead. Ballard had closed the Warriors lead to seven points three minutes into the second quarter before a Jarnell Stokes slam shifted the momentum back to Central. An 8-4 surge in the closing minutes of the half gave the Warriors a 39-28 halftime lead. A 10-2 run to open the second half pulled Ballard within 38-40. A pair of Memphis Central dunks propelled the Warriors lead back to ten points. A second techinal foul on the Bruins put Central's Tim Peete on the line to extend their lead back to ten points. With Central's Jarnell Stokes and Andre Applewhite fouled out the Bruins cut the lead to four points with two minutes remaining in the game. A pair of free throws by Ballard's Keiston Jones pulled the Bruins within three points with 18 seconds remaining in play. Masceo Harmon sealed the win for the Warriors with three free throws in the closing seconds to cap a 13 point performance. Ian Chiles led Ballard with a game-high 25 points. Memphis Central's Masceo Harmon was named the Gatorade/Five-Star Basketball Star of the Game.

Trinity 66, Chaparral 55 - Trinity, ranked 21st in Kentucky, jumped out to an early 7-3 lead against Scottsdale, Arizona's Chaparral who were playing without junior Zeke Chapman. A pair of late quarter three-point field goals pushed the Shamrocks lead to 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Firebirds held Trinity scoreless for the first 2:30 of the second quarter cutting the lead to 17-12. With two minutes to go in the first half the Shamrocks had extended their lead to ten points. Chaparral could not get closer than eight points for the remainder of the half. With two minutes remaining in the third quarter Chaparral's Alex Pyper pulled the Firebirds within two points at 34-36 capping a 13-6 run. The Shamrocks extended their lead to 39-36 by the end of the third quarter. The Firebirds pulled within one point in the opening seconds of the final quarter. Less than two minutes later the Rocks had pushed their lead back to 7 points. The Firebirds never got closer than nine points in the final three minutes of the game as Trinity rolled to a 66-55 win. Trinity's Taylor Epley was named the Gatorade/Five-Star Basketball Star of the Game.

Seneca 62, Warren Central 54 - The Seneca Redhawks, the only unranked Kentucky team in tonight's lineup, came out looking to prove a point jumping out to an early 14-6 lead against 7th ranked Warren Central. The Dragons wouldn't go away battling back to within one point at 21-20. The Redhawks connected on their sixth three-pointer of the half with just over a minute remaining to play to push their lead back to six points. The Dragons couldn't get off a shot in the closing seconds of the half holding the Seneca lead at 30-25. An early 6-4 run in the second half gave the Redhawks a 36-29 lead before the Dragons stormed to within 35-38 following a George Fant basket. Spence Sheldon connected on two three-pointers in the final 51 seconds of the third quarter to pull the Dragons back within 3 points heading into the final quarter. Four straight turnovers doomed Warren Central as Seneca extended their lead to twelve points. Brett Jackson led Warren Central with 14 points and Shamarcus Wells added 12. Zach McElwain led Seneca with a game-high 17 points. Martez Harris added 13 points and 8 rebounds for the Redhawks. Seneca's Zach McElwain was named the Gatorade/Five-Star Basketball Star of the Game.

Eastern 55, Tates Creek 45 - Arman Marks scored all 12 of Eastern's points to open the game as the 3rd ranked Eagles took an early 12-6 lead over Tates Creek. The Commodores pulled within six points in the closing seconds trailing 14-8 at the end of the opening quarter. Tates Creek outscored the Eagles 10-5 in the second quarter of play to pull within 24-22 at halftime. Eastern outscored the Commodores 8-2 to open the second half. A quick Tates Creek surge mid way through the third quarter got the Commodores as close as five points before Eastern pushed the lead back to 41-31 heading into the final quarter. Justin Daugherty connected on a field goal with 5:22 remaining in the game to pull Tates Creek within four points at 39-43. The Eagles rebounded quickly scoring five stright points to push their lead back to 48-39 mid way through the final quarter. Eastern never looked back leading by at least 10 points the rest of the way in rout to the 55-45 win. Eastern was led by Marks with a game-high 19 points. Marcellus Bardsdale led Tates Creek with 12 points. Eastern's Armon Marks was named the Gatorade/Five-Star Basketball Star of the Game.

Shelby County 79, Iroquois 75 - The Rockets jumped out to a 17-7 lead over the Raiders. Iroquois scored seven of the final nine points in the quarter to cut the Shelby County lead to five points at the end of the opening quarter. Shelby County outscored the Raiders 19-11 in the second quarter of play to give the Rockets a 38-25 halftime lead in the opener of the 2009 King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic. The Rockets out rebounded the Raiders 25-10 in the first half. The Raiders could get no closer than nine points in the third quarter of play as the Rockets took a 55-44 lead into the final quarter of play. Jermaine Jackson scored seven straight points for Iroquois as they cut the Rockets lead to one point with 3:31 remaining in the game. Norris Beckley put the Rockets back ahead with 2:51 remaining in the game connecting on one of two free throws. Iroquois' Jackson tied the game at 68-68 connecting on the second of two free throws with 1:37 remaining in the game. Iroquois' Brandon Whitlock missed a last second shot attempt to force overtime in the tournament opener. Shelby County opened overtime on a 5-0 run including Cache Tomlinson's seventh three-point field goal. Beckley hit two free throws with 0:52 remaining in play to push their lead to 75-68. The Raiders got three apiece from Whitlock and Gibbs to pull within 75-76 with 0:17 remaining in overtime. Beckley missed the second of two free throws with less than 10 seconds remaining in play but the Raiders could not get a basket. Daryl Hicks hit a pair of free throws to send the Rockets on to the quarterfinals with a 79-75 win. Hicks' finished with a game-high 27 points and Tomlinson added 23. Jermaine Jackson scored 23 and Donovan Gibbs added 20 for the Raiders. Shelby County's Cache Tomlinson was named the Gatorade/Five-Star Basketball Star of the Game.
