COLLINS 71, MADISONVILLE 70 -- OT

Our third quarterfinal provided a promising Top 5 matchup as No. 3 Madisonville took on No. 4 Collins. Collins clawed their way back from a large halftime deficit to extend the game to overtime before advancing to the KOB semifinals for the second straight year. 

K’suan Casey & Kenny White put on a showcase early in the game for Madisonville with the Maroons’ seniors combining for Madisonville’s first 14 points to build an early 14-4 lead. Collins’ Dayvion McKnight would cut the Madisonville lead to 8 points on two different occasion, but the Titans trailed 18-8 at the end of one quarter. An old-fashion three-point play by Kenny White extended the Madisonville lead back to 12 points early in the second quarter. A pair of three-pointers by Marcellus Vail and Tyson Turner two minutes later capped an 8-0 run for Collins to trim their deficit to 19-24. K’suan Casey and Marquise Parker came through with a pair of key buckets each as the Madisonville lead swelled back to 35-23 by halftime.

Ten points by Dayvion McKnight propelled Collins on a 17-3 run to start the second half claiming their first lead at 40-38 midway through the third quarter. A pair of three-pointer by Vail and McKnight late in the third quarter would extend the Titans lead to as many as five points at 50-45. A pair of free throws by Keshawn Stone capped an 11-4 run by Madisonville that put the Maroons back ahead 61-59 with 2:39 remaining. Collins would tie the game back with 1:29 remaining on a Josh Scriber basket with the assist from Marcellus Vail. Kenny White would put the Maroons back ahead 65-63 on the ensuing possession and a Keshawn Stone free throw with 15.7 seconds remaining would extend the Madisonville lead to 66-63. A clutch three-point basket from the corner by Collins’ Marcellus Vail with 1.1 seconds remaining would send the game to overtime tied at 66-66

Madisonville’s Kenny White and Collins’ Aaron Thompson would exchange baskets in the opening minute of the overtime period to keep things knotted up at 68-68. A pair of free throws by White with 2:37 remaining would put Madisonville back ahead 70-68. Thompson would counter with another OT field goal on Collins’ next possession to tie game at 70-70 with two minutes to play. A steal by Collins’ Dayvion McKnight on the next possession would give the Titans the ball back and eventually send Tyson Turner to the free throw time. Turner would connect on 1-of-2 free throws with 1:16 remaining to put Collins ahead 71-70. A crazy final 71 seconds saw the Titans miss their final five free throw attempts and Madisonville miss their final three field goal attempts giving Collins the narrow 71-70 victory.

Dayvion McKnight led the way for the Titans earning Central Bank Player of the Game with a game-high 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. Marcellus Vail added 15 points for Collins. Madisonville was led by Kenny White’s 24 points and 10 rebound performance and K’suan Casey added 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Maroons.
