The two teams combined to hit four early three-pointers with the Black Bears of Harlan County controlling early 10-5 midway through the opening quarter. 10th ranked Lyon County tied the game at 10-10 on a Brady Shoulders putback, but Harlan County kept the pressure coming reeling off five straight points to move back ahead 15-10. A three-pointer by Shoulders with a minute remaining in the opening quarter would give Lyon County their first lead of the game at 18-15. An old-fashion three-point play by Bray Kirk would extend the Lyons lead to 21-15 at the quarter break. Lyon County opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run to lead 26-15 following a Cooper Collins basket. Trent Noah gave Harlan County some life midway through the quarter scoring eight point during a 10-5 run to get as close as six points at 25-31. The Black Bears would go scoreless for the more than two minutes as Lyon County took control to lead 42-28 at the half.
The Lyons looked like they were cruising early in the second half as their lead grew to 18 points less than three minutes into the half. Trent Noah put the exclamation point on a 12-2 run by Harlan County to get the Black Bears back into it trailing 45-53 with less than three minutes to play in the third quarter. Travis Perry gave Lyon County some breathing room adding four points during a 6-0 spurt by the Lyons to lead 61-47 going into the fourth quarter. Cooper Collins basket with 4:40 remaining in play extended the Lyon County lead to 17 points. The Black Bears ran out of time but wouldn't give up hitting six three pointers in the final 4:30 of play to cut the final margin to just three points following Maddox Huff's three-pointer in the closing seconds.
Lyon County's Travis Perry led all scorers with 29 points and added 8 rebounds and 5 assists to earn Central Bank Player of the Game honors. Brady Shoulders added 20 points and 8 rebounds for the Lyons. Trent Noah led the way for the Black Bears with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Maddox Huff added 18 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for Harlan County.
Lyon County advances to Sunday's quarterfinals to play LaRue County at 6:00pm. Harlan County will take on host Fairdale at 6:00pm on Sunday in the consolation bracket.
