6th ranked Male got things started with a pair of free throws by Cole Edelen due to a pregame technical. Top ranked George Rogers Clark quickly put any pregame momentum the Bulldogs might have to rest with a 7-1 run to open the game. The Cardinals lead would grow to as many as six points at 13-7. A Bulldogs 10-2 rally to close the opening quarter was capped by Jayson Gasaway's basket in the closing seconds to put them ahead 17-15. George Rogers Clark went scoreless for nearly the first three minutes of the second quarter falling behind 20-15. The Cardinals pieced together their own 8-0 run capped by Eli Craig's basket with 3:39 remaining in the half. A three-pointer by Male's Jack Edelen would tie the game at 23-23, but it was all George Rogers Clark to end the half leading 30-25.
George Rogers Clark carried their momentum into the second half starting with an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 38-27 following Jerone Morton's old-fashion three-point play. A Max Gainey field goal with 1:39 remaining in the third quarter would get Male as close as 8 points but Morton and Edwards combined to extend the Cardinals lead back to 44-32 at the quarter break. Two minutes into the fourth quarter George Rogers Clark was firmly in control leading 49-34 following a Trent Edwards basket. The Cardinals lead swelled to as many as 17 points on two occasions. Male would never get any closer than nine points which happened in the final minute of play. George Rogers Clark advanced with the 70-59 victory.
George Rogers Clark's Trent Edwards earned Central Bank Player of the Game honors with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Jerone Morton added 21 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the Cardinals. Jack Edelen led Male with 21 points and Demetris White added 12 for the Bulldogs.
George Rogers Clark advances to Sunday's quarterfinals to play Great Crossing at 7:30pm. Male will take on Spencer County at 7:30pm on Sunday in the consolation bracket.
