COVINGTON CATHOLIC 60, NORTH HARDIN 33

Tonight's final first round matchup featured No.5 Covington Catholic (6-1) with a dominant performance over No. 10 North Hardin (4-3). A tight first quarter of action saw the two teams battle to 5 ties over the first seven minutes of action. It was three late points by Covington Catholic's Cole VonHandorf that sent the Colonels to the break with a 13-10 lead. The second quarter was all Covington Catholic as the Colonels pushed their lead to 7 in the first two minutes of the quarter. It was all about defense in the second half of the quarter as Covington Catholic turned seven North Hardin turnovers into 13 points and reeled off a 16-0 run to give them a comfortable 37-16 lead going into halftime.

Covington Catholic continued to pour on the pressure in the second half gradually increasing their lead to as many as 25 points with two minutes to play in the quarter. A short run by North Hardin pulled the Trojans back within 22 points to 50-28 at the quarter break. In the closing quarter the Trojans never got closer than 21 points and the two teams went scoreless for the last 2:32 of the game. Covington Catholic advances to the quarterfinals with a 60-33 victory.

Cole VanHandorf led the way for the Colonels with 21 points and 8 rebounds. CJ Fredrick added 19 points and Jake Walter poured in 10 points for Covington Catholic. Gavin Root led North Hardin with 12 points and James Pitre added 10 points.
