FRANKLIN-SIMPSON 94, FAIRDALE 64

The 2016 Forcht King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic opened with the host Fairdale Bulldogs (4-3) taking on 22nd ranked Franklin-Simpson (7-0). The visiting Wildcats got off to a fast start scoring the first six points and taking an early 20-4 lead. Fairdale recovered to rattle off a 10-3 run to end the opening quarter trailing 23-14. A quick 7-2 Bulldog run to open the second quarter pulled Fairdale within 25-21. A pair of buckets by Franklin-Simpson standout Tavin Lovan put the Wildcats back in charge and jump started a late second half run. Lovan would score seven of the Wildcats next fifteen points as they extended their lead to 47-26 with two minutes remaining in the half. Franklin-Simpson took a 51-31 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Wildcats continued to turn up the pressure in the second half extending their lead to 30 points just three minutes into the half. The Franklin-Simpson lead grew to as many as 34 points at 79-45 to end the third quarter. A 9-1 run to open the final quarter extended the Wildcats lead to a game-high 39 points at 85-46. The Bulldogs rebounded to reel off 11 straight points cutting the lead to 85-57 but couldn't get any closer. The Wildcats finished strong advancing to the quarterfinals with the 94-64 victory.

Franklin-Simpson's Tavin Lovan, one of the state's top unsigned seniors, led all scorers with 24 points. Lovan added 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks to cap a stellar performance. Fellow senior Carlesso Doaks added 19 points and Trey Radcliffe poured in 17 points. Fairdale was led by junior Glenn Queen with 17 points and Markleo Sullivan with 11 points.
