TRINITY 55, COOPER 53

In our first Top 25 matchup of the tournament it was 2nd ranked Trinity (5-1) taking on 14th ranked Cooper (4-2). It was an early spurt by Cooper's Adam Kunkel that gave the Jaguars a 5-0 lead, the largest lead of the game. The teams exchanged leads three times throughout the opening quarter with a trio of free throws by Sean McNeil giving Cooper an 18-13 lead at the end of the opening quarter. A 6-1 run by Trinity to open the second quarter tied the game at 19-19. Lukas Burkman gave the Shamrocks the lead moments later with a 3-pointer. The two teams exchanged the lead two more times to end the quarter with Trinity taking a 27-25 lead into halftime.

Trinity held onto their lead through the opening half of the third quarter before an 8-0 run by Cooper pushed the Jaguars ahead 36-32 in the closing minute of the third quarter. Adam Kunkel's three-pointer on the opening minute of the fourth quarter pushed the Cooper lead back to 5 points. Jayden Scrubb scored five straight for Trinity to tie the game at 44-44 two minutes into the final period but couldn't put the Shamrocks ahead. Trinity trailed until Scrubb connected on the second of two free-throws tying the game at 53-53 with 9.5 seconds remaining. The Jaguars got one final look as senior Sean McNeil drove to the basket but his miss led to a fast break layup at the buzzer by Trinity's Lukas Burkman to give the Shamrocks a 55-53 victory.

Cooper's Adam Kunkel led all scorers with 22 points including 4 three-point field goals. Sean McNeil added 16 points and 8 rebounds for the Jaguars. Trinity was led by Jayden Scrubb's 19 points and Lukas Burkman scored 14 points.
