The Cavaliers of Dorman used an early fourth quarter surge to survive a gutsy performance by No.4 George Rogers Clark with a 59-57 win and advance to the semifinals. The two unbeaten squads battled back-and-forth throughout the opening quarter exchanging the lead six times. A Jordyn Surrat three-pointer would give Dorman the lead at 10-9 to end the quarter and the Cavaliers would never trail again. Surrat would score 11 points in the second quarter to pace the Cavaliers who extended their lead to as many as 7 points and led 22-16 at the half. George Rogers Clark slowly chipped away at the Dorman lead and a pair of free throws by Trent Edwards three minutes into the second half would tie the score at 28-28. A Chase Harris three-pointer with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter capped a 7-0 run by Dorman that put the Cavalier back in control. Aden Slone's three-pointer with 5:31 remining in the game ended an 11-5 run by the Cardinals that pulled them within 41-42. Dorman answered with their own 11-1 run behind seven points from Noah Clowney to push their lead back to 53-42 with 2:30 remaining in the game. A pair of three-pointers from Slone kept the Cardinals hopes alive as they pulled to within 52-57 over the next two minutes of play. George Roger Clark's Tanner Walton connected on a pair of free throws to cut the Dorman lead to three points. A Dorman turnover in the final 30 seconds of play eventually sent Jerone Morton to the free throw line with 18 seconds remaining where he connected on one of two free throws to pull the Cardinals within 55-57. Surrat and Clowney would each miss one of two free throws on Dorman's next two possessions to give George Rogers Clark a chance trailing 59-57. A strong defensive stand by Dorman kept the Cardinals from getting a good look at a last second shot and they held on to advance.
Central Bank Player of the Game Jorden Surrat led Dorman with a game-high 24 points. Noah Clowney added 15 points and 7 rebounds for the Cavaliers. Jerone Morton led George Rogers Clark with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Trent Edwards added 14 points for the Cardinals.
Dorman advances to Monday's semifinals to play the winner of North Laurel vs. North Oldham at 9:00pm. George Rogers Clark will play the loser of the North Laurel vs. North Oldham game at 4:30pm Monday in the consolation bracket.
