George Rogers Clark used a dominant second half performance to advance past Lake Highland Preparatory (Orlando, FL) 76-60 in the opening round. A back-and-forth opening half of action saw the Cardinals and Highlands exchange the lead five different times. Ohio State commit Brice Sensabaugh scored 16 first-half points for the Highlanders who used a 15-5 spurt to take a five-point lead midway through the second quarter. A late run by the Cardinals put them back ahead 29-28 at the half. The Cardinals lead grew to as many as 8 points early in the second half. Sensabaugh would get the Highlanders back to within 4 points midway through the third quarter, but they never got any closer. George Rogers Clark would outscore them 12-2 to end the third quarter and never took their foot off the gas. The Cardinals lead swelled to as many as 20 points at 63-43 before eventually finishing with the sixteen-point victory.
Central Bank Player of the Game Jerone Morton led the way for the Cardinals with a game-high 30 points and 9 rebounds. Trent Edwards and Tanner Walton added 15 points and 14 points respectively for George Rogers Clark. Brice Sensabaugh led Lake Highland with 26 points and 9 rebounds. Jared Berry added 22 points for the Highlanders.
George Rogers Clark advances to Sunday's quarterfinals to take on Dorman (SC) at 4:30pm. Lake Highland will play Ensworth (TN) at 4:30pm Sunday in the consolation bracket.
