Kentucky's 2nd ranked Male Bulldogs controlled their opening round matchup from the opening tip defeating Belfry 103-81. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 21-6 lead at the end of the opening quarter of play and never looked back. Belfry would cut the Male lead to as few as six points with three minutes to play in the opening half before an 11-4 Male run sent them to halftime leading 43-30. The lead grew to as many as 24 points in the third quarter for the Dogs and despite shooting 64% in the quarter Belfry never got closer than 13 points. A 9-1 run by Belfry to end the third quarter and open the fourth quarter saw the Pirates claw back to within 13 points again but Male continued to dominate with their lead swelling to a game-high 25 point in the final two minutes of play. Male outrebounded the Pirates 46-31.
Male was led by Central Bank Player of the Game Kaleb Glenn with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. The Bulldogs had five other players in double digits including Jack Edelen with 16 points and Demetrius White who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Belfry was led by De'Mahjae Clark with a game-high 28 points. Sal Dean and Tykee Peterson each added 19 points for the Pirates.
Male will advance to Sunday's quarterfinals to play the winner of the Ashland Blazer vs. Lyon County game at 9:00pm. Belfry will play the loser of the Ashland Blazer vs. Lyon County game at 9:00pm Sunday in the consolation bracket.
